Who we are

Hāpai Te Hauora is a Māori public health organisation based in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our name means to uplift, to carry, to support — and it captures both our purpose and our commitment to the communities we serve.

We provide public health expertise, leadership, and advocacy. We work with central and local government, communities, researchers, and sector partners to address the conditions that drive health inequity and to support Māori and Pacific communities to achieve better health outcomes.

Our work is grounded in te Tiriti o Waitangi, which we regard as fundamental to a just and equitable health system in Aotearoa. We believe that Māori leadership and decision-making authority are essential to achieving durable, meaningful change.
