Our work
Prevention and Health Promotion
We work with communities and government agencies to design and implement prevention programmes that reduce the burden of preventable illness. Our approach is grounded in evidence and guided by communities themselves, with a particular focus on interventions that address the social and commercial drivers of poor health.
- Tobacco and smoking cessation initiatives
- Alcohol harm reduction
- Healthy eating and physical activity programmes
- Mental health promotion
Policy and Advocacy
We engage with the policy process to ensure Māori and Pacific health perspectives are heard and acted on. We provide submissions, briefings, and expert commentary to government, select committees, and public inquiries. We advocate for policy environments that reduce health inequity rather than entrench it.
- Health legislation submissions
- Public health strategy input
- Smokefree and tobacco control policy
- Food and nutrition policy
Research and Evidence
We contribute to the public health evidence base through research, literature reviews, and evidence synthesis. We prioritise research that is led by or in genuine partnership with Māori communities, and that generates findings directly useful for policy and practice.
- Kaupapa Māori research approaches
- Health equity analysis
- Evidence reviews for policy development
- Community health needs assessments
Workforce Development
A strong and capable Māori public health workforce is essential to achieving long-term health equity. We support the development of public health skills and leadership within Māori communities and organisations, and advocate for better investment in Māori health workforce capacity.
- Professional development support
- Sector leadership and networking
- Mentoring and career pathways
